Chicken Licken

Ahh...deadlines met so I can now update my blog guilt free. Hooray!

I recently illustrated 'Chicken Licken' with Oxford University Press and below is the cover artwork, well a couple of versions of it in fact.

This was my original design -

and this is the revised cover -

I have noticed that the cover has now been amended further. You can see a pic of the final cover on Amazon here. The tree appears to have sprouted some more leaves, how magical!

The book is part of the Traditional Tales series and is out in September this year. If you happen to come across it, I very much hope you enjoy it :-)

More leaves! That is a bit naughty of the designer, but I can see they wanted to create a contrast for the title background.
Your design is beautiful... I prefer the first version if I am totally honest, though I do like the blue sky addition :o) I shall keep a look out for a copy of this book as your illustrations are delightful.

Thank you June! Yes, the title must not have been clear enough with the gaps in the leaves. I too prefer the original design though. I find a lot of publishers want backgrounds, I think its just something I need to get myself more comfortable with!

Lovely work by the way :-)

Congratulations Christine, I really look forward to having a good look at it when it comes out! Loving your chicken but I agree, very naughty of them to alter your artwork without your knowledge! I too love the first version but I think they find more colour on a cover = more sales. Hope it does really well xx
